Oh, what may be a dream but wishes mute?
Those thoughts that dance and prance a time or two?
The silent longings of the heart set free
To lift the spirit from chambers dark and cold.
A dream is as a morning mist of spring;
Refreshing, light, and gently promising
To all who sleep and wake in time to catch
The welcome peace and glory they behold.
But woe to waking hours; the bitterness they bring
When dreams escape the loving hold of thought!
The plaintive heart starts longing once again
To sink into the realms of possibility.
I am very happy about how this turned out! It was part of an English assignment. I had to write a poem in unrhymed iambic pentameter similar to Robert Frost. It was harder than I thought it would be, actually, because my creative juices seem set on rhyming as much as possible. I literally had to scrap three line drafts because they rhymed XP But then this lovely poem rose up from those ashes and I am pleased to report that I am actually proud of it! Yes, you heard right, this is a poem that I am proud of. Anyways, as always, I hope you enjoy, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!
